Vaping Conference Set for Nov. 21

webmaster · Oct 28, 2024 · Leave a Comment

Healthcare providers, parent advocates, educators and researchers will convene Thursday, Nov. 21 for a conference highlighting the dangers of vaping among adolescents and adults.

The conference, “Tobacco & Vaping Use in Adolescents & Adults,” will be held in observance of the Great American Smokeout and take place at The Queensbury Hotel, 88 Ridge St., Glens Falls, NY. Registration begins at 9:30 a.m. and the conference will run from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

“As smoking rates continue to decline in New York State and nationwide, the use of vape products sadly continues to rise among adults and teens,” said Brielle Carnright, tobacco project coordinator at The Heart Network, one of the conference’s sponsors. “This conference will bring evidence-based knowledge of tobacco and vaping cessation strategies to Upstate New York and Capital Region providers and health systems, with a goal of better equipping ourselves to prevent people from starting to vape and in helping them quit.”

Topics include treatment policies and strategies, increasing provider awareness and knowledge on the vaping epidemic and more. Speakers include Ann Morgan of The Heart Network, Kathie LaBarge and Gwendolyn Ossenkop of PAVe (Parents Against Vaping E-cigarettes), Barbara Schillo of the Truth Initiative, Daniella Puorto of Whitney Young Health Center, Kristen Corcoran of Skidmore College, Sheila Galea of Behavioral Health Services North, AliceElizabeth Ladue of Champlain Valley Family Center and Patricia Bax of the New York State Quitline.

This free conference is presented by The Heart Network and St. Peter’s Health Partners, with support from North Country Country Nicotine Consultants, Health Systems for a Tobacco-Free New York and Glens Falls Hospital. Coffee and lunch will be provided. To register, visit bit.ly/tobaccovapeconference.
