Creating Healthy Schools and Communities is a coordinated, multi-sector initiative designed to increase demand for and access to healthy, affordable foods and opportunities for daily physical activity in high-need school districts and their surrounding communities.
Daily physical activity provides substantial health benefits for adults and children, and helps prevent obesity, heart disease, diabetes, and other chronic diseases.
Yet during the past three decades obesity rates have skyrocketed across the country, and incidences of heart disease, diabetes, and other chronic diseases are increasing.
Communities that support active living for people of all ages and abilities are part of the solution. The Heart Network partners with schools, worksites, convenience stores and communities in northern Franklin County to support policy and environmental changes that encourage active living and easy access to nutritious foods.
