On May 10th. Senator Dick Durbin of Illinois along with several other senators introduced the Tobacco Tax Equity Act which would close certain loopholes in current tobacco tax policy which do not require pipe tobacco or larger cigars to be taxed as heavily as cigarettes and rolling tobacco
The Tobacco Tax Equity Act would not only mean more tax revenue for New York State. But it would also represent the closing off of a major loophole which continues to give youth and young adults an opportunity to buy cheaper tobacco products.
