1 in 3 adults with a mental illness smoke.
That is the major statistic highlighted by a new report from The Centers for Disease Control (CDC) focusing on smoking and mental health. 33% of adults with a mental illness smoke as compared to 21% of adults without a mental illness. The CDC has also released a companion piece with this study outlining what can be done by individuals, mental health facilities, mental health professionals, and state and local leaders.
Smoking and mental health is also a topic which the New York State Tobacco Control Program has addressed a number of times in their Continuing Education Series.
