Smoking and Mental Illness

Glenn · Feb 12, 2013 · Leave a Comment

1 in 3 adults with a mental illness smoke.

That is the major statistic highlighted by a new report from The Centers for Disease Control (CDC) focusing on smoking and mental health.  33% of adults with a mental illness smoke as compared to 21% of adults without a mental illness.  The CDC has also released a companion piece with this study outlining what can be done by individuals, mental health facilities, mental health professionals, and state and local leaders.

Smoking and mental health is also a topic which the New York State Tobacco Control Program has addressed a number of times in their Continuing Education Series.  You can find those presentations and others at: http://www.nysmokefree.com/confcalls/Prevcalls.aspx (February 1st and 8th 2012 as well as November 29th 2012)
