Quick tips on tobacco use and COVID-19

Chris Morris · Apr 24, 2020 · Leave a Comment

The links between tobacco use and COVID-19 are still uncertain, but the team at the North Country Healthy Heart Network continues to track the latest guidance from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

Here are three things we do know:

  1. Cigarette smoking can suppress the immune system and cause heart and lung disease.
  2. A person who smokes may be at greater risk for, and may have a harder time recovering from, COVID-19.
  3. The relationship between the use of e-cigarette, or vaping, products and risk of COVID-19 is uncertain.

As always, the Heart Network is here to help if you’re looking to quit. Use our map to find tobacco cessation services near to you, or get in touch: amorgan@heartnetwork.org.
