The North Country Healthy Heart Network was recently awarded an $8,580 mini-grant from the American Lung Association of the Northeast, (ALA). The grant will support Citizen Advocates/North Star Behavioral Health Services efforts to implement an evidence based tobacco treatment policy and associated performance improvement plan later this year. The mini-grant was submitted with input from Citizen Advocates, Executive Director, Susan Delehanty and Beth Lawyer, Director of North Star Behavioral Health Services. Grant funds will be used to build North Star’s capacity to effectively counsel clients that use tobacco products. To this end the grant will cover the cost of sending two staff members to Univ. of Mass Tobacco Treatment Specialist Training, plus, two carbon monoxide monitors and a limited supply of nicotine replacement therapy. Citizen Advocates/North Star Behavioral Health Services is working with the Heart Network’s Living Tobacco Free Program to develop a meaningful tobacco treatment policy and prepare the organization for its implementation.
