Great American Smokeout – Make Your Plan TODAY

Glenn · Nov 15, 2012 · Leave a Comment

The Press Republican published a powerful editorial this morning, highlighting the importance of quitting tobacco for personal health. the NY Times Personal Health Column also focused on tobacco cessation this week with an article entitled “Plan to Become an Ex-Smoker for Good”.  These are only two of many local and national articles and letters which have been published in an effort to promote the American Cancer Society’s “Great American Smokeout” in November.

The Great American Smokeout is an event where the American Cancer Society urges smokers to use November 15th as a quit date, or at least come up with a plan to quit.

Locally, numerous letters have appeared in The Adirondack Daily Enterprise and The Press Republican:

Quit Smoking – Colleges Against Cancer

Tobacco Prevention – Dr. Marie Caroline Piche, Family Physician

Great American Smokeout – Susan Patterson, Health Educator, Franklin County Department of Health

Prepare for Great American Smokeout – Heidi Dishman, North Country Tobacco Cessation Center

If you’re a smoker and you’re looking for some inspiration or guidance to help you quit check out these letters.  You can also visit the American Cancer Society’s Great American Smokeout page for more detailed information or call the NYS Smokers’ Quitline at 1-866-NY-QUITS.

As always, you can contact the North Country Tobacco Cessation Center at 518-897-5980 0r Tobacco Cessation Specialist Heidi Dishman at hdishman@heartnetwork.org with questions as well.
