In their latest “Vital Signs” report, the CDC highlighted the importance of the population based prevention work which the Heart Network focuses on. The report stresses the importance of the “ABCS” of preventative care: Taking Aspirin when appropriate, monitoring blood pressure, monitoring cholesterol, and encouraging tobacco cessation. If doctors and individuals work on these basic things, we would be able to prevent about 1/4 of heart attack and stroke related deaths each year.
