The NYS Smokers’ Quitline provides free counseling to NYS residents.
Counselors are interested in your tobacco history, they’ll ask if you have attempted to stop tobacco use in the past and if so, what you found helpful. They’ll ask you if you have set a date to stop tobacco and give you tips on what to do the day before. In addition, counselors will share information about what other people have tried and liked.
You can call the Quitline for support for as long as you need it.
If you are insured by Medicare and have a health problem caused by your smoking, the counseling time your doctor spends with you may be covered by your insurance. Details of the Medicare benefit are included in this downloadable brochure (PDF).
