Chantix

MEDICATIONVarenicline   ( ChantixTM)

Prescription only

0.5 mg pill (white)
1 mg pill (blue)

PROS & CONSPros:
Easy to use; pill form.
High success rates.

Cons:
Not appropriate if history of renal failure.
Pregnant or breastfeeding only use with doctor’s consent.
Nausea, sleep disturbance.

DOSAGE1. Choose a quit date.
2. Seven days before your quit date, start taking the white pills (0.5mg) once per day for three days.
3. On days 4-7 take the white pill twice per day; once in the morning and once in the evening.
4. Starting on day 8 (the day you stop smoking) stop taking the white pills. Begin taking the blue pills (1mg) twice per day until the end of treatment.
TIPSNausea is common. Taking this medication with food will help.
Always take this medication with a full 8-ounce glass of water.
This medication MAY NOT be used in combination with Nicotine Medications.
COST PER DAY$ 4.20 /day
