The Malone Rec Park, in collaboration with The Heart Network, will host Celebrate Trails Day on May 13.
This family friendly celebration takes place at the community recreation park on Duane Street, and will feature a variety of activities that focus on the outdoors, physical activity, healthy living and, most importantly, having fun. The event will run from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., with a Family Friendly Rave set for 6 to 8 p.m. the same day at the upper lodge at Titus Mountain. Proceeds from the rave benefit the Malone Rec Park pool project.
“The Malone Rec Park has grown to become an invaluable community resource,” said Jennifer Hathaway, co-director of the Malone Rec Park. “This public space offers opportunities for accessible outdoor recreation and is a place where our community can come together and celebrate what makes Malone such a special place; we’re grateful to everyone who recognizes the importance of it and who helps us invest in it for the future.”
“Malone has shown an outstanding dedication to investing in public infrastructure that supports The Heart Network’s goal of building strong foundations for healthy communities,” said Kat Harkins, coordinator for The Heart Network’s Creating Healthy Schools & Communities program in Franklin County. “Whether it’s enhancing nutrition and wellness in its schools or committing to walk- and bike-friendly initiatives community-wide, Malone always finds a way to prioritize the health and well-being of its residents.”
Celebrate Trails Day includes scavenger hunts, face painting, a bike rodeo, a sensory walk, a wild edibles walk, fitness activities and a bike blender station as well as fairy house building from 1 to 2 p.m., an ADK Raptors show from noon to 1 p.m., and bird walks with Rich Hanlon at 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. The Family Friendly Rave costs $10 for adults and $5 for kids 13 and under; it will feature live music, a cash bar, a food truck, art activities, face and body painting, a s’mores station and a glow-themed costume contest.
