October 5th marked the 20th year of International Walk to School Day. Area schools celebrated with record participation during this fall campaign.
Students cross LaPan highway on their way to Petrova Elementary in Saranac LakeOver 70 students, teachers and parents congregated in the downtown Saranac Lake parking lot before school to make the trek up the hill to Petrova Elementary, a number of participants that surpasses any other in the four years the school has partnered in the Safe Routes to School program. All three Malone elementary schools held walks during the school day, allowing for all students to get a chance to get some exercise in the autumn sunshine, regardless if they are a student who walks or rides the bus.
