Over 70 students, teachers and parents congregated in the downtown Saranac Lake parking lot before school to make the trek up the hill to Petrova Elementary, a number of participants that surpasses any other in the four years the school has partnered in the Safe Routes to School program. All three Malone elementary schools held walks during the school day, allowing for all students to get a chance to get some exercise in the autumn sunshine, regardless if they are a student who walks or rides the bus.Davis Elementary in Malone enjoys a school-wide walk in the autumn sunshine
Plans are currently underway for the next Safe Routes to School campaign to be held during International Walk to School Month in May.
