During the last week of January the Heart Network’s Creating Healthy Schools and Communities, CHSC, staff joined other grantees from around the state at the New York State Department of Health and the Obesity Prevention Center for Excellence’s annual meeting. During the two-day conference, grantees heard from a variety of prestigious speakers including Michael Baran of the Frameworks Institute, Margo Wootan Director of Nutrition Policy from the Center for Science in the Public Interest, and advisors from the Alliance for a Healthier Generation.
Heart Network Staff (from left) – Jamie Konkoski, Kat Haney, Andrea GoffTo keep the information relevant to each participant, many of the sessions were divided into school and community topics. During the community-based discussion Let’s Complete Our Streets! North Country Healthy Heart Network Program Manager, Jamie Konkoski, moderated the “Complete Streets Needs of Rural Areas” break-out session.
Opportunities like this provide the Heart Network with new ideas, an expanded professional network and stimulates creative strategies to increase health-promoting environments in our rural communities.
