Fit Pix has expanded to work sites and Franklin County is the first participant in the new project. Through participation in the project Franklin County is increasing the number of healthy foods and beverages available in vending machines and at meetings. This will make it easier for employees to make healthier choices during the work day.
The changes being made by Franklin County impact over 400 county employees as well as numerous community members and community based organizations that use County-owned facilities. One change being made right now is the installation of free water bottle filling stations or water filtration systems at the County Jail, Emergency Medical Services, Department of Social Services, the Highway Department, Community Support Services as well as the Malone Court House. Employees are also being encouraged to serve healthier items at meetings, fundraisers, and during holidays and celebrations. In November the County will implement healthy changes to their vending machines by using our Fit Pix snack standards.
To create a lasting impact, the County has adopted healthy meeting and healthy vending resolutions. They have also identified department champions and are in the process of creating a wellness committee.
The Fit Pix Worksite Project is a part of the Heart Network’s Creating Healthy Schools and Communities, a project funded by the NYS Department of Health.
