The Robert Wood Johnson Foundation in their July Child Obesity Issue Brief highlighted several states and larger counties/municipalities who have shown a decrease in childhood obesity rates in the latest reports. Noting that all these places have made significant and sweeping changes to bring better foods into their schools and communities and encourage more conscientious and livable development projects.
This is exactly the type of work we do here at the Heart Network. Working with schools and communities across the north country to create gardens for both education and nutrition. And working with communities like Malone and Saranac Lake to improve connections throughout the community an develop new recreational areas. All of these projects are helping reverse trends in obesity across the region.
