The Heart Network has just learned that Walker, Franklin County’s SR2S Chicken, might be showcased on the front of an iconic cereal box! ‘I’m really not looking for the recognition,’ Walker says, ‘I’ve just had a lot of practice…you know…crossing the road. When Franklin County posted the “Safe Routes to School Mascot” position on their website, Walker thought, “Why not me?”.
Since last fall, Walker has been helping teach kids in Franklin County how to walk and bike to school safely, joining Elementary School students in Malone for the Elm Street Ribbon Cutting and Saranac Lake during Walk and Bike to School Week. You might have caught him most recently in Saranac Lake’s Winter Carnival.
Fact checking for this article required a conversation with the County’s personnel manager. When asked why the county chose Walker, she said, he clinched the position during the interview when he told her he wanted to move the conversation from “why” chickens cross roads, to the far more important question, of ‘how?’. The rest is history…
If selected, you’ll likely see Walker in your local cereal aisle on April 1, 2016.
This has been a bit of April Foolery…but we do love our SR2S CHICKEN!
