Physical Activity - Accessibility

People who use walking aids need clear sidewalks - credit: Dan Burden

Accessibility refers in part to the degree in which the built environment of our communities – including sidewalks, trails, parks, playgrounds – is available to as many people as possible. Communities that provide facilities that are readily accessible to and usable by people with disabilities encourage active living and independence for this segment of our population. However, improving the “accessibility” of places to be physically-active in the community benefits people of all ages and abilities.
