Advocacy - Surveys

To be effective, community health advocates need current and accurate information regarding health indicators, trends, behaviors, and attitudes among the population they are representing. The surveys and reports below provide valuable data for community health advocates in the North Country.

The Heart Network identified the need for current and accurate information regarding “healthy living” behaviors and attitudes among residents of Essex, Franklin, and Hamilton Counties. This information will enables us to better:

  • plan and define goals, objectives, programs, services, initiatives, and promotions to be provided in the future by the North Country Healthy Heart Network, and
  • measure and evaluate the effectiveness of the North Country Healthy Heart Network in accomplishing its mission by using this data for comparison to future studies completed in Northern New York.

To measure the necessary attitudes and behaviors regarding “healthy living” in Essex, Franklin, and Hamilton Counties, the North Country Healthy Heart Network contracted with Joel LaLone Consulting, from Watertown, New York, to complete community healthy-living surveys in 2007 and 2011. The studies involved completion of random telephone surveys with adult residents of the Northern New York region.
